CASA Advocate Helps Bring a Family Back Together

Lily and Emily were 13 and 14 when they were removed from their mother because of her abuse of prescription medication. These girls had been through the emotional wringer and were getting into trouble at school and at home because of their aggressive, sometimes even violent behaviors. Everyone began writing these teenagers off.  But their CASA advocate wouldn’t. He took the time to really get to know them and to understand the feelings driving their behaviors. They wanted nothing more than to be a family with their mother again, but each time their mother broke her promise to get straight, the girls fell deeper into a downward spiral. The CASA advocate worked to convince this mom how much her girls needed her. He tried to help her see why she needed to stop abusing drugs and made sure the girls got the therapy they needed to help them work through their emotions and aggressions. The CASA advocate also made sure they were getting the educational services they needed to keep from falling behind a grade level. He advocated for the girls with education and service providers to make sure their educational and therapeutic needs were met. In addition to that, he worked to make sure the mom got not only the treatment she needed, but had the right psychological services to help her understand how important she was to her girls and to learn to be a good parent. The services the volunteer advocated for were provided and they did the trick.  Everything turned around.  The girls are home with their mom now and are doing really, really well, both with their behaviors and with their education.

None of this would be possible without the dedication and love of our advocates and supporters – thank you all!

Hi Jack! You more likely want to talk to Jenn or Melissa, they do the work with the advocates. I just share their amazing accomplishments. 🙂
