Today’s Community Superhero is June Bretz,
Executive Director of the Volunteer Center of South Jersey!
For the past two years, the Volunteer Center of South Jersey and CASA of Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem counties have been working together to implement programs that are centered around family strengthening. Along with that, Bretz says, “More recently, we have partnered to launch the Family Strengthening Network which seeks to assist and empower families by offering support through a family advocate in churches, schools and other community centers where families already meet.”
June and The Volunteer Center make a difference in child abuse prevention and awareness by supporting “over 70 non-profits in the region, some dealing with child abuse awareness, prevention and personal assistance. Through a host of programs and services, we support these organizations by recruiting volunteers, promoting events, hosting workshops and more.”
Her favorite superhero is Professor X from the XMEN. She says the main reason why he stands out to her is because, “Professor X sought to protect and give rights those who were different in a non-violent manner. Also, Professor X didn’t let his handicap stop him from doing what was right or by becoming a success. He was a selfless leader with a humble, passionate and strong spirit!”
When asked what she would like to see improved in our community, June says, “I would like to see people coming together to cooperate and pool resources to solve some of the regions most pressing issues.”
The Volunteer Center of South Jersey is involved with over 100 non-profits in the South Jersey region, in addition to the corporate and governmental communities.
Our community needs more superheroes like June and The Volunteer Center of South Jersey. Without the dedication and support of all of these community superheroes, we would never be able to make a difference.
Thank you for all that you do!
