CASA of CGS Soap Box Derby Cars Are Ready to Roll!

unnamedFor 20 years, the Millville Elks have held the Donald “Ducky” Sharp Youth Week, giving boys and girls an opportunity to take part in fun events for an entire week at different locations throughout the city.
Beginning Sunday, May 4, with the attendance of a church service of your choice, and concluding on Saturday, May 10th with a soap box derby, Millville’s Youth Week offers something for everyone.
Last year, Millville resident and City employee, Eric Henderson decided he wanted to bring awareness to a cause he felt strongly about, while involving the community at the same time. He says of the effort, “Every child should have somewhere to turn, something to do, and something to look forward to.”

Unfortunately, last year’s race was cancelled due to severe storms. The races were rescheduled for this year, surely leaving many youngsters charged and ready to go.
No stranger to building incredible things, 601451_10200684970194206_1975922239_nHenderson put his skills to work and built two soap box derby cars painted to represent CASA of Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties during Millville’s Youth Week.
His son, Aidan, and stepson, Jake, will be the first to try out the sharp, made-for-speed racers. Following the race, both CASA of CGS soap box cars will be donated to the City of Millville for children who want to participate in the races in the years to come, but may not have the resources to build them.
