One of the hardest things to do is to avoid giving up when it feels as if you can’t give anymore.
You can easily throw yourself into a depression by worrying about what’s not happening in your life, what’s coming next and where you feel you should be. The most important thing to remember when you’re in a trying situation is that it WILL get better as long as you continue to push forward. Giving up will halt any progress toward a positive outcome.
I’m sure you know the age-old proverb, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going” – while this saying is absolutely true, it can be unbearably hard to be strong in situations where you feel as if you keep getting knocked backward.
That’s where you have to, against all negative emotions, push forward. We are more resilient than we think and stronger than we feel.
When it feels as if you’ve hit rock bottom and the bottom keeps giving out from under you, continue climbing, you won’t be scratching at the sides forever. One thing I’ve always used as support is to ask myself, “Would I be happy with my choice if I was in the same situation a year from now?” Chances are, if you’re in a position where you’re asking yourself a question like that, you wouldn’t be. Instead, put one foot in front of the other and keep taking steps forward. I promise, if you don’t give up, you’ll come across something great. The best thing is that by moving forward, you may come across something that you weren’t even looking for.
