Life Doesn’t Have to Continue in One Way

Life doesn’t have to continue in one way just because it is that way right now. You don’t have to accept what is if it is not what you want, not what you deserve or is holding you back. In all aspects of life, what you allow is what will continue. Believe it or not, you have all the power and control to end what is hurting you, not serving you, what you do not want and what is holding you back. All you need to do is stop allowing it.

Truer words cannot be spoken. What you allow is what will continue. For example:

~ If you allow a friend to take advantage of you, they will continue taking advantage of you.
~ If you allow a boss to bully and disrespect you, they will continue to bully and disrespect you.
~ If you allow an employee to undermine your authority, they will continue to undermine your authority.
~ If you allow your work to not be valued, it will never be valued.
~ If you allow children to be out of control, they will continue to be out of control.
~ If you allow yourself to not be a priority in your life, you will never be a priority to someone else either.
~ If you do not cut the grass in your yard, it will continue to grow.

You have the power to control how you allow people to treat you, what situations you will allow yourself to be in or around, what you allow your actions and responses to be, and if you allow yourself to say yes or no. What you allow sets the bar for others. It shows them what you will accept or not accept. If you show people you value yourself, they will value you. You need to treat others the way you want to be treated and in turn do not allow yourself to be treated any less.

Here’s the thing – you have to believe in yourself. You have to know you are worth it. This is hard. It can be really hard. Believing in yourself and knowing your worth takes strength, introspection, perseverance, trust, faith and forgiveness. It takes being comfortable in your own skin. It requires an understanding that your actions and responses are a reflection of you, just as peoples’ actions and responses are a reflection of them.

You have to realize that life is a series of relationships. Your life is a relationship with yourself, God/ the universe/your higher power, people, nature, animals, places and even things. These relationships are all grown from mutual give and take to reach a harmonious balance. Relationships are not always easy but they are essential to our growth, learning and happiness. We determine how our relationships affect our life by what we allow.

What you allow is what will continue. What do you allow and will it continue?
