Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are trained volunteers whose role is to advocate for the best interests of children in the Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem County Juvenile Court system who have experienced abuse or neglect.

JOURNEY OF A VOLUNTEER

Attend an info session
Apply to become a CASA volunteer
Attend pre-service training
Make recommendations to court based on child's best interests
Help child get placed in a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible
Investigate your first case
Complete training & get sworn in by Family Court Judge

BECOME A VOLUNTEER

As a CASA volunteer, you will provide invaluable support to your community's most vulnerable children, helping them achieve permanency and setting them up for a successful future.

STEP 1:

Attend an upcoming virtual information session. Register for an info session at www.calendly.com/casaofcgs

STEP 2:

 Complete and submit an application. Applications will be emailed to you after you have attended an information session.

STEP 3:

Attend a volunteer interview with Training & Outreach Coordinator Julia Shulzhenko.

STEP 4:

Complete fingerprinting and background checks.

STEP 5:

Once all above steps are completed and you are accepted, you will begin your 30 hours of pre-service virtual training.

STEP 6:

When training is complete, you will be sworn in by one of our judges and you will begin advocating for a CASA youth.

What we look for in a CASA volunteer:

21 years old

Can pass a background check

Willing to commit 10-15 hrs a month on their case

Computer literate

Big heart, love for children, and looking to make a difference in your community
