Life. A beautiful blessing, but at times, trying.
With hardships that come and go – some lasting longer than others, it’s hard to see a positive future. We all endure hard times, emotions, loss, and financial issues. In most cases, we’re too close to the trees to see the forest.
Step back and breathe.
Ask yourself, “Will any of this matter in six months, or even a year?”
The most beneficial factor in any hardship is having a solid support system. As an adult, going through difficulties can feel like you’re drowning. The key to holding your head above water is to find a silver lining and try your best to think positive. Find one thing, or more than one thing, and focus on the opportunity it will provide in the future. I know it can be extremely difficult to find something so positive when your life may seem to lack any optimism. But, it’s there. Even the smallest thing can keep you flying until you’re high enough to see the entire forest.
As adults, we are fortunate enough to have a broader selection of silver lining choices. Children? Not so much.
They need support, mentors, to provide them with the hope and optimism for a brighter future. A child involved in an abusive situation or one that is experiencing being in foster care is going through changes that are uncomfortable and hard to process. We, as a community, need to provide a silver lining for them. We need to support them, be there when they need us and show them that they, too, will be a butterfly.
