Carl began his journey with CASA in 2013 and has been an incredible addition to our team from the start.
While on his cases, Carl would exhaust each resource until he found one that would fit the family in need to ensure the children were returned to a safe, secure home with less of a chance of returning to the foster care system.
His presence in court is precise and professional. Many times his thorough reports were analyzed by opposing counsel and he has always stood firm, answering questions, and believing in the level of advocacy he brought for the children. In addition to that, his court reports have been used multiple times as an example for training new and existing advocates.
After leading 12 children across two cases to permanency, Carl became one of the first peer coordinators. A peer coordinator is a senior level volunteer position that provides coaching and support to a small group of new CASA volunteers to ensure that children involved with the CASA program receive quality advocacy.
As a pioneer of the new peer coordinator model, Carl has displayed patience and strength while transitioning to the new role, an incredible amount of kindness and an unwavering amount of support for his advocates.
His wife, Amy, is a wonderful supporter of Carl and his volunteer work with CASA, and has assisted him in hosting educational advocacy in-services for the advocates.
Carl is a retired teacher, but, retired doesn’t seem to fit the bill. When he isn’t volunteering with CASA, he volunteers his time to Shriners Hospital for Children, along with countless other organizations. He also can’t hide the fact that he used to be a teacher when he is editing court reports for his advocates and they’re lovingly sent back with red circles and constructive criticism regarding structure and grammar.
Throughout the years, Carl has never turned down an opportunity to assist the program. With an already full plate, he is always willing to do more than is ever required and his work and support of the CASA organization is priceless. Because of Carl’s dedication and ever-growing expertise, CASA of CGS is destined to grow – serving more children and supporting more advocates.
