Tom Ryan is the CASA of CGS Advocate of the Month for October!

Tom Ryan has been an advocate with the Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem CASA program since March, 2018. Tom’s sense of humor was one of the first things that stood out when he joined us. He has the ability to make anyone laugh, but can put it aside to get down to business for a child’s best interest.

He’s honest, caring and upfront – incredible qualities in an advocate.

Tom’s first case wasn’t within our program, but, one he volunteered for to assist another county CASA program. The child they were serving was placed too far from their county reach and created a huge disadvantage for the program to effectively serve this child. Tom jumped in without skipping a beat and immediately began serving the child to help ensure his needs were met.

A bit later, Tom was assigned to a local case with 5 children. He has provided incredibly thorough reports, solid recommendations and an unwavering amount of support for the children he is serving. His work ethic is impressive and we are so very grateful for his service.

His peer coordinator, Ed, says of working with Tom, “In his first year with CASA, Tom has been involved in two cases. In one he has been the “eyes and ears” for a CASA based in North Jersey with a child in South Jersey.

In his second case, he has provided support and direction to a family with five children. The children face significant medical and emotional issues while their mother is working very hard to raise their financial security. He has established an important connection with a woman who has deep mistrust of the system and has reached out to him at crucial moments. His advocacy in court has been noticeably effective.”

“Tom’s dedication to the children and families is what CASA is all about.  His communication and support to not only the children and families but to all personnel involved is helping keep families together, he is a true asset to all and I am thrilled that he is on my team,” says his advocate coordinator, Michele.

Congratulations, Tom! Thank you so very much for your service and thank you for making a difference in our lives and the children who need someone just like you!
