Meet Chuck Hanes: A Voice for the Children!

At CASA of CGS, our advocates mean the world to us! They selflessly dedicate their time to be a voice for abused and/or neglected children without ever asking for or seeking recognition in any way. Each advocate has a reason as to why they decided to join the fight against child abuse and be on the front line. Their compassion is incredible. We want to recognize them for their efforts and give our CASA of CGS family an opportunity to meet some of the superheroes we are so fortunate to have as part of our team!

Meet Chuck Hanes!

Chuck grew up in Woodbury Heights, N.J. He decided to become involved with CASA after attending a CASA information session with his friend, who is also a CASA advocate. After learning more about CASA’s mission, he wanted to provide a voice for abused and/or neglected children in court in Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties, too!

He attended our winter training in January and was officially sworn in on March 12, 2015, by the Hon. John Matheussen, Gloucester County Superior Court judge. When asked why he decided to become a CASA volunteer he said, “I hope to help some child (or children) of a troubled family receive the love and support necessary to get through a most difficult time in their life.”

In Chuck’s spare time, he enjoys golfing, working around his house and yard, spending time with his daughter and going out to dinner. We asked if there was a particular time or person that changed his life, “My life has been changed by Jesus Christ who died for my sins and opened the door to heaven for me.”

The quote that means a lot to him comes from the Bible: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength”. Chuck, thank you! Because of you, children have a voice. You are contributing to the strength of a neglected child’s foundation. They continue to be enveloped with love and support because of your visitations and recommendations. Thank you for sharing your story! CASA of CGS is proud to have you as part of our family! Please continue sharing your motivation and desire to help others! It’s because of amazing individuals like yourself that the children have a voice and a strong role model when looking for support and answers. Thank you for all that you do, not only for CASA of CGS, but for the children we service as well.

Cumberland County ranked last place in Child Welfare in New Jersey. Let’s stand up for our children and do something about it! Visit www.wespeakupforchildren.org for more information and follow us on Facebook for daily updates and information.
